Vincent Van Gogh's sketchbook
The farm of father Eloi. Image © Musée du Louvre. Late 1800s.
Edward Hopper's journal
Sketches and notes for the oil paintings. I love how clean and organised is this sketchbook, just like his paintings. More on this tumblr.
Georges Seurat's sketchbooks
You can actually peek into 4 of his sketchbooks on the interactive MoMA page dedicated to his drawings. The page itself is a little dusty and maybe not the easiest to use, but it includes tons of interesting information on conservation of drawings and Seurat's work. He died at the age of 31, leaving an impressive output of large format drawings and journals, which shows the role that drawing had in his artistic career.
